How to Put a Bible Verse on Your iPhone Lock Screen
Why the lock screen is holy ground
You look at your lock screen dozens of times a day—often in the exact moments you are about to scroll. Putting a verse there turns a reflexive glance into a small, repeated encounter with Scripture. It will not transform your spiritual life on its own, but a phrase seen a hundred times a week has a way of sinking in. It is one of the highest-leverage, lowest-effort changes you can make to your phone.
Option 1: set a verse image as your wallpaper
The simplest method needs no app. Save or make an image with a verse on it, then go to Settings, then Wallpaper, then add a new wallpaper and choose your image for the lock screen. Pick a verse short enough to read at a glance—Psalm 46:10 or Philippians 4:6 work well. Change it monthly so it stays fresh rather than fading into the background.
Option 2: use a widget for a daily rotating verse
For a verse that changes on its own, add a Scripture widget. Many Bible apps, including YouVersion, offer a lock-screen widget with a daily verse. Touch and hold the lock screen, tap Customize, add the widget, and the verse updates automatically each day. This keeps Scripture visible without any effort from you after setup.
Option 3: pair it with a boundary that makes it count
A verse on the lock screen is a gentle reminder, not a boundary. If the glance still slides straight into the feed, pair the wallpaper with a tool that pauses your distracting apps during your devotional window. Belltower can hold those apps behind a short reading and prayer, so the verse you see becomes an invitation you actually accept rather than one you scroll past.
Keep it fresh and personal
Rotate the verse with the season of your life—one for a hard week, one for gratitude, one you are trying to memorize. The point is not decoration; it is formation. A living word in the place your eyes keep landing is a quiet, daily act of pointing your attention back toward God.
